GAME PROJECTS
Roles: Sound design, composition & game design
Waterworks was a finalist entry for the Bigmode Game Jam 2025 hosted by Videogamedunkey.
For the final boss voices and sounds, I had a particularly silly idea. I tend to embrace these ideas as they can lead to surprisingly effective results. The final boss in waterworks is a large slime that has absorbed the souls of its human prey, and its voice needed to reflect both its massiveness and the echoes of these trapped souls.
I collaborated with the programmer and another friend, recording multiple takes of the same phrases. I then layered select portions of these recordings and processed them using time stretching, high saturation, vocal synthesizing, and carefully implemented reverse delay to create an unsettling and unique effect that is meant to evoke a sense of mystery and otherworldliness.

Here's a before and after of the recordings.

Roles: Sound design & composition
"Solar Heart" was an entry for the Wild Godot Jam #76.

The game is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth where the sun has vanished, leaving the world bleak and gray. The player character must restore warmth by accumulating heat within a "solar heart," a machine that stores energy from any source. This is achieved by destroying the remaining AI droids that roam the desolate landscape.

This premise served as the primary inspiration for the "Solar Heart" soundtrack. I envisioned a world devoid of life, dominated by concrete and metal. Given the game's fast-paced nature, I decided to create a drum and bass-inspired score, utilizing metal barrels as percussion samples. This, combined with an eerie, cold melody and chord progression, effectively established the tone for the overall game experience.

ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Jimmy Nagaura Yabiko, a.k.a. the autodidactic audio chef, and I’m a Brazilian/Japanese/Dutch creative specializing in the world of sound and music since 2013.
My sound journey has been a chain reaction to the point where I am now and where my current goals are.
Over the past few years, my love for music and gaming has evolved into a great passion for game audio. This has led me to create multiple games for various game jams like GMTK, BIGMODE, and WILD GODOT, implementing own created SFX and music in Unity with FMOD.

It all started by learning to play the guitar and bass at 15 years old. I started off performing as a multi-instrumentalist in local bands. With the not so carefully saved gig money and new found inspiration I had made my best investment yet: a Macbook Pro mid 2012. With the power of Logic Pro X, I steamrolled my skills in songwriting, composition and music production.

I’ve since then produced music for artists globally, such as Gravity Circus (NL), Lonely Boy (USA), and TOY (JP). I also enjoy working on solo projects, often gravitating toward rock, hip-hop, and pop.

When I’m not cooking up new sounds, you can find me grinding engrams, looting scavs, or pushing keys— with a bit of Mario Kart or Super Smash on the side.
